Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) leader Raila Odinga yesterday told Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Issack Hassan of his disappointment in the manner the commission conducted the last General Election when the two met for the first time since 2013 polls.
The former Prime Minister, who held a closed-door meeting with Hassan at Raila’s Capitol Hill Square office, said the Opposition had long lost confidence in the commission citing numerous experiences that accompanied the 2013 presidential elections.
The commission has been on the receiving end from Cord leaders led by Raila since the 2013 General Election, which Cord still claims it won despite the electoral body declaring President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Coalition the victor.
Cord even petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn Uhuru’s declaration but lost. Sources privy to the meeting said Raila told Hassan he distrusts the commission.
The meeting was attended by Cord co-principal and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula, Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama, ODM secretary general Ababu Namwamba and ODM executive director Oduor Ongwen. The IEBC boss is said to have assured the leaders that the commission will learn from past mistakes.
